Mango Lassi  or Indian Mango Drink is a  favorite summer drink of  Indians. There can be no better combination  than  the sweetness of mangoes with the tanginess of yogurt. You can make this fruity, thick, creamy, refreshing Mango Lassi recipe in less than 15 minutes with ripe mangoes, yogurt and a little sugar. 

Choosing Mango For Lassi

Choosing the right kind of mangoes is extremely necessary for making a good mango lassi.  Mangoes which are fresh, ripe and  sweet  are best as they are of naturally high flavor. Your mango lassi made with canned mango pulp tastes different from fresh ingredient lassi due to citric acid.  In the end you won't have enough mango flavors like real mango lassi. 

There are many varieties of mangoes popular in India and each  has his own favorite depending on where he has grown up. I am from West Bengal. Maldah of West Bengal is world famous for it's variety type of mangoes like HimSagar, Langra, Fajli etc. Each variety has it's own flavor. Out of these variety, I love HimSagar for it's awesome taste. May be ,you are from another state and it's natural that you may love any other variety. Whatever the choice is, always try to use fresh and ripe mango to make Mango Lassi. You can also add your  choice of flavorings  like green cardamom, saffron or rose water. Mango lassi recipe- Recipica

Ingredients of Mango lassi Recipe:

  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust according to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron threads (optional)
  • 4-5 ice cubes
  • Chopped fresh mint leaves or sliced almonds for garnishing

Instructions of making Mango Lassi:

1. Cut the ripe mangoes into chunks, discarding the pit and peel.

2. In a blender, add the mango chunks, plain yogurt, milk, sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands (if using).

3. Blend everything on high speed until you get a smooth and creamy mixture. If the lassi is too thick, you can add a little more milk to achieve your desired consistency.

4. Taste the lassi and adjust the sugar if needed. The sweetness will depend on the ripeness and sweetness of the mangoes.

5. If you prefer a chilled lassi, you can either use chilled ingredients or add a few ice cubes to the blender and blend until they are crushed and incorporated into the lassi.

6. Once the lassi is smooth and creamy, pour it into glasses.
